CONSULTATION

Consultation Policy

Detour Gold is committed to the successful development of the Detour Lake Project in the spirit of full and open dialogue with local and regional stakeholders and citizens, including Aboriginal people, having an interest in our Project. We believe that the Project will highly benefit many if our decisions are informed by broad and meaningful consultation and dialogue with our stakeholders.

We are committed to creating and nurturing positive working relationships with our stakeholders so that we may build an understanding of each other’s needs and manage cooperatively our shared interests in the environment. Through consultation, we have and will continue to work collaboratively to identify and implement opportunities for long-term benefits in our communities and economies.

Using varied and culturally appropriate engagement activities we will engage and share information in an open, honest and transparent manner. We will clarify at the outset of each engagement activity how your input will influence our project.

Principles of Engagement

The following principles of engagement have guided and will continue to guide the consultation for the Detour Lake Project:

Early notification: Information about the Project will be provided to stakeholders in a timely manner to facilitate the stakeholder engagement process.

Honest, open and transparent communication: All pertinent information about the Project will be shared with stakeholders. Stakeholder input will be sought, documented, and will be addressed in the project.

Accessible: A variety of stakeholder engagement methods will be used that are written in plain language to distribute information about the Project and to gather stakeholder feedback.

Flexible: Feedback on the stakeholder engagement process will be sought from interested individuals and stakeholders to ensure that meaningful opportunities for input are provided. Changes will be made to the public and stakeholder participation program as necessary to reflect stakeholder needs.

Capacity Building: Where acceptable and appropriate to all parties involved, community liaisons and working committees will be established or engaged to facilitate information exchange.

Opportunities/Events for Involvement

Aboriginal people, stakeholders and other interested persons are encouraged to participate in public information sessions being held.

The information sessions typically include a general presentation and poster displays about the Detour Lake Project and the provincial environmental assessments as well as proposed mitigation strategies. Representatives of Detour Gold and their consultant will be available to listen and record your comments, to answer questions and to discuss the project with you. Your feedback is encouraged and valued over the life of the Project. We want to hear from you either at the Public Information Sessions or at any time through correspondence.

Direct notification of future involvement activities will be provided to those who express an interest in being involved.

Separate meetings are being planned for First Nations and Métis Communities.
