Detour Gold started construction of the mine infrastructures in late 2010, after receiving approvals from the provincial government and full support from the local Aboriginal communities. During the main construction phase 2011/2012, the Company will employ over 1,000 people. During the operation of the mine, the employment level will be approximately 500 people. The Detour Lake Project is expected to have a significant impact on the economy of Northern Ontario. With gold production expected to start in early 2013, Detour Lake is expected to be among the largest gold operations in North America.
